– Lacrosse Project –

As I have never played lacrosse before, I researched all the different versions of the game to determine the necessary skills to teach. Then, I modified the rules to present a fun and safe version of the game for all students to enjoy. Which grades did I teach lacrosse? To all student from third grade to twelfth grade; that is several hundred students.

Of course, as teachers, we have to evaluate our students on what the skills they have learned as well as how well they execute those skills. First, I taught the student the most essential skills to play the game. Then, I designed a course that the students must navigate that utilizes all the skills they have learned. Finally, the students played games in preparation for the Lacrosse Championship to be played at the end of the semester.

– The Games –

Every class, I made sure the students had the opportunity to play lacrosse games. Work hard, play hard. After practicing the skills of the game, I divided the students into teams and let them play for fun. I enjoyed playing just as much as the students did. So, of course I joined in on the fun. I like being a proactive teacher to motivate my students by playing too. You never know who you will inspire by not standing on the sidelines. Now, I can say I have played lacrosse. They may not be “real” lacrosse games, but we were playing the sport. Unfortunately, we ran out of time at the end of the semester and we were not able to host our Lacrosse Championship. Nonetheless, the students learned new skills and were exposed to a new sport.
