– More Heat –

There was a slight breeze throughout the day today, but to say that it was cooler than yesterday would be an understatement. The heat was still very unrelenting. However, I cam better prepared. First, I did not have to hike up the hill this time as someone gave me a ride. How was I better prepared? I brought a beach umbrella!!! The ground was too hard to stick the post into the ground, but that did not stop me from getting creative. This definitely made a difference throughout the day.

– The Games –

The national championship comes down to the Old Red and the Panthers. I was hoping that the Panthers from La Serena would win the National Championship because I helped coach them to a third place win at the VARC Beach Rugby Open several years ago. However, Old Red from Arica just proved to be too much for them. Maybe the intense heat worked in their favor as Arica is a hot, desert zone? If you are used to playing in those kinds of conditions, then it does not become a factor. However, the Panther still put up one heck of a fight.

– The Hike –

The location for the tournament is actually quite far outside of the city being at the base of the mountain range. I had to take several busses and trains to get there. Even then, I still had to walk a few more kilometers. I did not realize that I would be hiking today. The hill to get to the rugby facility was so steep I thought I was hiking the up to the towers in Torres del Paine again. At least there was shade pretty much all the up to help shield me from the heat. Anyways, by the time I got to the top, I was seating pretty good and I had drank a third of my water. I could see how this particular hill would be a great place to exercise. You would walk, run, bike and do a number of activities.

– Intense Heat –

I do not care what the temperature says, the heat felt at least 10-20 degrees hotter. It was so intense as there was absolutely no shade anywhere. Being so far out in the country, I imagined lots of big trees and a nice breeze. However, it was the opposite. It was very bright and the sun was beating down on us like an egg in a frying pan. I was a good thing the Gatorade company was on hand giving out cups of ice cold Gatorade.

– Fellow Photographer –

Meeting other photographers is always fun. Just as in sports, it is an opportunity to interact with photographers not only from your local area, but from different regions and even from different countries. This is just the case with Matias, who is from Argentina, but he has been living in Chile. I enjoyed talking with him about sports photography. I look forward to meeting him again one day.

– Batidora Beach Rugby Team –

I was invited to play with Batidora in the Beach Rugby National Championship!!! It was great knowing that all of your hard work was recognized. Even though I had a great beach rugby season, I will still feeling bummed out about not qualifying for the nationals. Then, I received a message out of the blue from Batidora. They were short a player and were looking for someone to help fill the ap. They reached out the the owner and director of the tournament asking for suggestions. The coach of Batidora asks me if I would be interested in playing with them at the nationals. I was so excited and of course I said yes! I was very thankful and it was a honor to get to know as well as to play for them. Finally, after three seasons, I have made it to the Beach Rugby National Championship.

– Better Late Than Never –

I was looking for something different to photograph and I discovered that there is a women’s flag American Football league in Chile. Even though the location was about thirty minutes away from my town, it was very difficult to find the location. However, I arrived just in time as the national championship game had already started.

– Gunships (vs) Amazon –

I was so focused on trying to photograph the sport, that I did not “see” the game. However, I did see a friend of my from one of the local rugby teams playing in the game. Anyways, Gunships defeated Amazon to win the national championship.
